Senior Adult Speech Pathologist
Katie is a Senior Speech Pathologist at Hastings Macleay Speech Pathology. She completed a B.S in Psychology at the University of Central Arkansas and went on to complete her M.S. in Speech Pathology at the University of South Florida where she fell in love with medical speech pathology and working with adult and aged care clients.
Katie has worked in large trauma and stroke centers, in the NICU and in infant feeding, in home health, aged care facilities, and in outpatient rehabilitation with a wide variety of diagnoses and rehabilitation needs including: dysphagia (swallowing disorders), video fluoroscopic swallow studies (VFSS) and flexible endoscopic evaluations of swallowing (FEES), aphasia, traumatic brain injury, dementia and other progressive neurological disorders, head and neck cancer, and tracheostomy and speaking valve management.
Katie is certified in the McNeil Dysphagia Therapy Program, an evidence-based treatment program based in exercise physiology that can be effective in the rehabilitation of severe and profound swallowing disorders. She is also a licensed Speak OUT! Provider, providing voice therapy to people with Parkinson's Disease and related disorders.
Katie's passion lies in swallowing diagnosis and management. She also loves to work educating families and caregivers about improving communication with people who have communication disorders. She has extensive training in dementia and dementia management in the home and facility settings, and has an emerging interest in the management of chronic refractory cough.
